About the Instrument
This violin has a lovely warmth in its tone that resonates across registers. This instrument has a lovely dark auburn varnish over a golden ground. It’s medium flame figure falls slightly from the center joint on its two-piece back. Similar flames are on the ribs, and the neck and scroll are of a plainer wood. The luthier has provided some slight shading on the back plate along the treble shoulder.

About the Maker
Todd Goldenberg (1953- ) was born in Abington, Pennsylvania. A contemporary luthier working in North Berwick, Maine. Goldenberg initially began building guitars under the tutelage of Rob Ehlers in Portland, Oregon. After moving to Chicago, Goldenberg began working at Bein & Fushi atelier, making his first violin in 1975. Goldenberg then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan to work with Shar Products Company for almost a decade with the respected luthier David Burgess. After his tenure at Shar, Goldenberg moved to Maine and opened his own violin shop in nearby Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In 2003, he moved his shop directly across the road from his home in North Berwick. Goldenberg has taught violinmaking at Boston’s North Bennett Street School and was a member of a luthier co-operative based in Waltham, Massachusetts. He has received a Silver Medal for Cello Tone from the Violin Society of America’s International Competition and served two terms as a board member of the VSA.
