About the Instrument
This violin has a gorgeous timbre that is refined and smooth, shining across registers. The varnish is an umber over a golden ground, with some antiquing and shading by the luthier. The back’s lovely medium flame figure falls from the center joint of the two-piece back, with similar flames on the scroll. The ribs are of a plainer maple.

About the Maker
Michael Anthony Daddona (1974- ) was born in Waterbury, Connecticut and is a contemporary luthier working Hudson, New York and East Canaan, Connecticut. Originally a furniture and cabinet maker beginning in the mid-1990s, Daddona united his woodworking craft with his love of music. He began as an apprentice in the workshop of Francis Morris in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where he worked for over a decade. During this period, Daddona held several short-term trainings with recognized masters of the field. He has also worked as an instructor, teaching violin set up at the University of New Hampshire Violin Craftsmanship Institute. He currently instructs students on the nuances of varnishing at UNH. With Jonathan Talbott, Daddona co-founded Temple Violins, a full-service violin shop in Hudson. Daddona has earned a Certificate of Merit for Tone from the Violin Society of America’s International Competition.
