About the Instrument
This violin has a nimble ease of play with a particularly warm lower register. The varnish is a rich medium brown that brings out the tight flames that fall downward from the center joint on the two-piece back. Similar flames run along the ribs, with the neck and scroll less highly flamed.

About the Maker
Alex Buktenica (1992- ) is a contemporary luthier and violin repairer born in Ashland, Oregon. Initially a violinist, at twelve years old Buktenica began to apprentice under Stephen Bacon at Bellwood Violin. At the age of seventeen, Buktenica began studying at the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria Antonio Stradivari in Cremona under Georgio Scolari. Buktenica went on to complete a masters degree at the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria and graduated second in his class. Upon finishing his studies in Cremona, Buktenica returned to Ashland and opened his shop while continuing to provide repair and restorations for Bellwood. Buktenica builds modern and baroque stringed instruments, often returning to Italy to continue learning nuances of the traditions of Italian craftsmanship from master luthiers Roberto Cavagnoli and Barbara Piccinotti. Buktenica’s instruments are known for their excellent quality and tone, and are sought across the country.
